Pivot Your Home Staging Business Goals

Jun 30, 2020

2020 is halfway over. While most of us are saying "good riddance" to such a difficult start to the year and are ready for this year to just be OVER, there are still 6 months left in 2020. That is six months of business building and goal reaching in 2020 that IS still attainable. The coronavirus forced us to think about what is truly important to us.

Last December, we did a webinar on goal setting and proclaimed that 2020 would be your "best year yet!" Had we known then that in just a couple of months we would be faced with a global pandemic and financial crisis... we would NOT have claimed "best year yet" for 2020. While few people will be able to claim that 2020 was their best year yet, there are still things you can do to achieve your personal and professional goals.

Find your WHY.

Everyone needs to know what their WHY is. Your WHY is what gets you out of bed in the morning, what your life's purpose is.

Simon Sinek wrote an incredible book called Start with Why. Why do you want to achieve your goals? Why do you want to start a home staging business?

Well, we can tell you what our why was back in 2007 when we started our staging business. We were 2 friends who kind of fell into this business.

At that time, Debbie's why was, "well, it seems fun!" She loved decorating homes and the idea of making a career out of it with her best friend sounded like a blast. Julie's why was that she wanted to pay for her kids' college tuition. Her dream was that her 3 kids would be able to graduate debt-free. After 13 years, our WHY has changed. Now, we live for creating well-paying, secure jobs that people love.

What is your why? What is motivating you? Is it financial independence? Being your own boss? A love for design? A flexible schedule? Being able to provide for your family?

Visualize it.

Get a picture in your mind (or create a mood board!) of what you want your life to look like. Do you want to go on a great vacation? Put a picture of you on the beach on your board. Want a new car that isn't always in the shop and is super reliable? Put a picture of the car you want on the board! Visualize yourself in this dream life. Think about how you will FEEL on that beach with your family – the vacation that YOU have provided for your family.

Name your fear.

What is holding you back? When we started, Julie was so scared to get in front of real estate agents and tell them about staging. Stage fright was so real. And then Debbie posted a short video about wreaths on doors and got a comment that said "you are not a good public speaker." Woah, that hurt!

The truth is that there will be people who discourage you. But, that shouldn't get in the way of your dreams. If you take the leap and decide to get training and start your staging business, or if you hire that person... What is the worst case scenario? Those are valid concerns to think through.

But, then think about the worst case scenario if you don't take that next step?? What if you don't start this business and ten years from now you are STILL wishing you could be your own boss and decorate homes? Yikes! Isn't that worse than trying and failing??

The truth is that you have a GIFT! You have an incredible eye for design, but you have to put in the work. Hone your skills. Get educated. We are here to give you the confidence and strength.

Dream B.I.G.

THAT is your Beautiful, Impossible Goal (BIG). Your B.I.G. is NOT the first goal you think of. Nope. It is the goal you think of when you scratch the first goal off your list and dream BIGGER!
